Live PLO Anyone?
Glenn started feeling a little better yesterday afternoon, so we joined the Riverside tourney last night. I won the first hand with KK, and never won a hand after. I had so many good starting cards, but couldn't steal a pot with a mask and gun. I was one of the first out.

Glenn, however, cashed in 5th and got some money out of it. The BB was all-in blind. Glenn had TT and raised the pot. A clueless player cold called with A4o (??). Glenn goes home on the river.

The 4/8 game was great, and I doubled my money within the first 30 minutes or so. I lost some back, but after tourney expenses ended up about $175 up, due to a promotion.

Today is the event at Binion's I wanted Glenn to play the most. It is a super deep stacked $500 event. He doesn't feel up to playing :(

Tomorrow is a PLO event at Binion's, mirroring the $1500 PLO at Rio on Thursday, with good starting chips and a decent structure. I'm thinking of playing.

I read on 2+2 that Binion's got a 1/2 blind PLO cash game going the other day. They are having a "Summer Omaha" special. The rake is 5% up to $2 on any Omaha game. Plus players in any game get paid $2/hr. to play, which is good for comps, meals, etc. Plus the room rate is only $29. For a grinder rock like me, these extra goodies are heaven.

Between winning so much at cash games, and losing my tourney buy-in's, I'm staying just slightly ahead of the game. So stupid that I can't sit out of tournaments, but dang, how often do I get to play such a myriad of games (online doesn't count!)?

Anyway, I'll try to update if we decide to head up there.

Felicia :)

I love PLO tourneys. Best of luck if you do make it to Binions. You gotta love/hate that skanky old school joint.

I will likely head on up Sunday morning to play in the $3000 NL event that day at the Rio. Somehow I feel an irresistible and irrational compulsion to play in at least one WSOP event. Like you, I can't seem to throw enough good money after bad with these tourneys.

I'm such a dork.

So last night I was playing at the bike and the two guys sitting directly to my right (the guy that was there and the one who replaced him when he left) were both mean to the dealers. Both of them were getting mad at the dealers for not giving them their gut shot draws 4 out of 5 times like they expected, and were very upset when they got there fair share of lousy starting hands.
They were calling the idiots jerks, being very critical of any small mistake they made, and throwing the cards across the muck, usually exposing cards in the process.

As a player, should I speak up, tell the guy to chill out? I'm a skinny guy, the second guy was twice my size or more, probably having almost 200 pounds on me. I really didn't want to make the game more unpleasant by getting into a shouting match with a jerk, and frankly I was rather intimidated. So I just shook my head muttered, "them's the breaks" or "that's poker for you". But they seriously thought the dealer had some input into the cards.

I wasn't sure if you had any advice.

This is a sticky situation. Only in LA is the dealer abuse so rampant that there is virtually no beginning and no ending. I have different ways of handling things depending on the vibe at the table, and where the abuser is sitting in relation to me.

I will first try the humorous approach. I will attempt to engage the abuser with jokes and one-liners that are either slight put downs or self-depreciating. This works occasionally and the abuser feels stupid for being so grumpy at a table when someone is clearly talking to him and trying to keep things light.

If the abuser is on tilt and no amount of banter will work, I sometimes will tip the dealer every time the abuser misses and starts in. This can make him even more angry and steaming and sometimes makes me his target.

If everyone seems like they have it out for this guy, I will attempt to rally them together and demand the floorman do something. If the whole table is against him, and I can get them to hold up their balls, we can either get him to shut up, or get him out of there.

California is a tough nut to crack. It takes years of dealing with this undeseriables just to figure out a strategy. I don't always succeed, but I never just let it go completely. I at least give it a try, and blow off some steam in the meantime.

Good luck!
